About Karen Hayes
Karen E. N. Hayes is the award-winning author of seven horse-care books and hundreds of magazine articles. Karen earned her Bachelor's degree in biology in 1975, and her DVM degree in 1979 from the University of Illinois, where the faculty honored her with the Upjohn Award for proficiency in Large Animal Clinical Medicine—the first woman in the history of the college to win this award. She worked in private practice for several years, then joined the faculty at the veterinary college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she conducted equine research under the auspices of Dr. Oliver J. Ginther, and earned a post-doctoral Master's degree in equine reproduction. She then returned to private practice. Karen continues to write and lecture at equine-related conventions and expos. She and her family live in Idaho on their 100-acre farm. Click here to go to Karen's bookstore.
